Demi Lovato was named a Global Citizen mental health ambassador at the Global Citizen Festival last night in Central Park.
The 25-year-old announced she will help fund the expansion of a Save the Children pilot program, which encourages scarred and affected children in Iraq to heal from trauma by drawing, music, painting and by using other forms of art. “Ending the stigma around mental health conditions and supporting internally displaced children to build physical and mental resilience through education and access to justice is not a choice, it needs to happen, and it needs to happen now,” Lovato said.
Since 2014, more than 3 million people in Iraq have been displaced within the country due to war and conflict. Demi has been a powerful advocate for mental health issues after being vocal and publicly speaking about her personal struggles with substance abuse, eating disorders, and being bipolar.
Lovato’s new album, Tell Me You Love Me, is set to drop worldwide on September 29th.
